Utility-scale solar capacity installed in India at 2.38 GW in Q1

A recent report by Indian consultancy JMK Research & Analytics indicates that India installed 2.38 GW of utility-scale solar capacity in the first quarter, an increase of 54% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022. Over the same period, rooftop solar generation increased by approximately 801 MW.

In the first quarter of 2023, India shipped more than 4 GW of centralised and string inverters and approximately 3.1 GW of modules.Waaree is the largest module supplier and Sungrow is the leading inverter supplier.

 

In the 12 months to 31 March 2023, developers installed around 8 GW of utility-scale solar capacity, down 22% year-on-year. Meanwhile, approximately 2,232 MW of new rooftop solar capacity was connected to the grid.

 

JMK Research expects India to add around 18 GW of solar capacity in FY2023-24, comprising 15.5 GW of utility-scale and 2.5 GW of rooftop capacity. The country is forecast to install around 6.7 GW of solar and 2.5 GW of hybrid capacity in the next two quarters.

At the recently concluded New Energy PV Expo in Shanghai, China, So Good Energy has agreed to work with three Indian companies on 150 MW of ground-mounted solar plants and is looking forward to building more for the people of India in the coming days!
